The Daft Punk Alive 2007 tour made a stop in Los Angeles Saturday night. Both Daft Punk and Ratatat blew the roof off of the Los Angeles Sports Arena, each in their own way.
Ratatat opened up with their intense guitar, synth and electric beat mix. The band, founded by Evan Mast and Mike Stroud, have a rather unique sound. At the show they mainly played tracks off of their 2006 release Classics, which is possibly the best album I heard in all of 2007. Check out the Ratatat MySpace page for some of their samples.

As if Ratatat wasn’t enough to satisfy my musical appetite for the evening, Daft Punk followed with their cosmic sound to really get the crowd sweaty. Seriously, if you weren’t sweating after this show you should see a doctor. Electronic musicians Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo were stationed atop the massive techno-pyramid in their signature robot costumes. From there they gave the dancin’ faithful everything they wanted, and more. It was my first time seeing Daft Punk live, and I will definitely pursue them again. They are appropriately renowned for their live shows; it’s unlike any other on Earth.
Note: SebastiAn and Kavinsky warmed up the crowd nicely as the first act of the evening.
